Goals for 2024

  • Sista Soldier Monthly Publications.

  • Angel wellness calls to the NYC Chapter Members.

  • Care packages for soldiers National Guard and is currently deployed overseas in Kuwait

  • NYC Chapter will host in-person Meet and Greet for new members as well as members information session in March

  • Feb 2023 Instillation of new NABMW Chapter Installation Ceremony

  • Applied for 2024 Discretionary Funding

  • Initiated workshop survey via google for the members of the NYC Chapter of NABMW to share their thoughts on how to best the NYC Chapter of NABMW 2023 (For example, the Scholarship Award Event as well as workshops /education seminars 2023)

  • Lorraine West was recognized by the U.S. Army NYC Recruiting Battalion and USAG Fort Hamilton, Brooklyn N, Y. Narrated by Catherine Laporte

  • The Vets and NABMW Northeast region coordinated, virtual panel for March Women’s history month. Focus of the program was to celebrate the contributions made by black women in the U.S. Military pre and post “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” and hear the diverse stories of how theses incredible women are using history to mentor, support and advocate for women vets.

  • Collaborate with other organizations and Churches

  • Vietnam Veterans and NABMW members and other Veterans attended the Rhodes Academy in Hempstead, (Student’s learned about Lessons learned in the Military)

  • NYC Chapter attended Carnegie Hall Honoring 688th Central Postal Battalion unit and 761 Tank Battalion, WW 11 at Carnegie Hall Stern Production. Eyes of the World D-Day to V-Day

  • Annual Veterans Appreciation Day Parade held in Brownsville Col (Ret) Carol St Pierre was the Grand Marshals

  • NYC, Brooklyn & DMV chapters placed wreaths at Arlington National Cemetery during the Wreath across Arlington National Cemetery Campaign

  • NYC Veteran’s Day Parade

  • Holiday visit with Honor house for the Male Vets

Accomplishments for 2017

  • Military Family Readiness organizer book - This was created to assist family members in the event of deployment and or death.

  • Implemented a Facebook account
     

Fundraising to increase revenue for 2017

  • 2016 Dinner dance held in 2016 and two scholarships were awarded.  We plan the same for 2018 in September, so that more scholarships can be awarded to military women

  • NYC Chapter Celebrated Black History Month by recognizing the contributions of black military women

  • CPR Class for members and the Harlem community

  • Annual Prom Dress Drive we collected over one dozen prom dresses and accessories to share with the young women of Far Rockaway Queens

  • Attended Wheelchair charities fundraiser

  • NY Senate Hall of Fame: several of our Members were inducted into the New York State Senate Veteran Hall of Fame

  • Participated at the Association of Black Educators

  • Mr. Eric Claude LCSW-R, Counselor in the counseling center direct link to Veteran Students at BMC

  • Participated  in the Annual Military Retiree Appreciation Day at  Ft Hamilton Military 

  • Participated in the 48th African American Day

  • Participated  in NYC Veteran’s Day Annual Parade - November

  • Honor home for Male Vets (a not-for-profit Veterans Home for homeless males) the group visits and dines with the men and take needed gifts around the Holidays.  There are usually 5 to 7 men in transition.

  • Northeast Region Holiday Brunch at Tosca’s restaurant, Bronx, NY-December.  This annual get-together with family and friends.
